How do I transfer purchased license of CAMPS v4 safe to another PC with no floppy drive ? |
Upon your contact and our verification, we'll reissue a separate license to the existing licensee of the program. |
I just can't set up the desired duration for the Line Block (or Chord Block, Chord, Note, etc. ) I am working on. Why ? |
When Align To Grid is Active in the Area you are working on, the size of the objects in the Area will snap to the nearest Resolution Grid point. |
To achieve the desired duration, you may need to either deactivate the Align To Grid for the Area or reassign an appropriate value to the Grid Resolution. |
The Align To Grid and Grid Setup are located under the View/Grid View menu. |
Is it possible to edit multiple chords simultaneously? |
Yes, it is possible. Select a desired number of Chords (containers) in a Chord Block with holding Ctl Key down and then you can go :
Generate ( purely Chord Progressions, No reference to Melody Lines) |
Harmonize ( generates only Chord Progressions that fit with Melody Lines) |
Detect from MIDI instrument |
Construct |
Others |
How can I create a certain pattern of Chord Progression ? |
You can always make repetitions of a Chord pattern by duplicating a Chord Block that contains ONLY a copy of the Chord pattern. |
I'd like to understand chord algorithm for Chord Progression. What sort of rules does it follow on root movement, tension and release, etc.? |
CAMPS looks for some sort of favorable relation between Chords such as II-V, Dominant resolutions, Deceptive Cadence, etc., making it possible to generate fluent Chord Progressions. There is no preferences provided such as a jazz tendency or a country tendency for Chord progression generation because of the prolific cross idiom harmonic variation that exists. |
Can I establish my own preferences, such as a jazz tendency or a country tendency for Chord Progression? |
There is no preferences provided such as a jazz tendency or a country tendency for Chord progression generation because of the prolific cross idiom harmonic variation that exists. |
Is there any way to control the chord algorithm when harmonizing my melody. For example to say, "I want a totally triadic progression with diatonic root movement--no dissonance--for a pop song effect?" |
Yes, you can manually do that. Pull down the dividing line between the Chord Area and the Line Area in the Document Window (or the Pianoroll Editor) to view more information and to make your settings for each Chord. You may need to horizontally stretch the Editor by using he Zoom In button to view more information. |
To achieve your example, a totally triadic progression, you may need to deactivate all the Chord Functions there except Diatonic for each Chord and then go to Generate or Harmonize. |
CAMPS always shows results in 7th Chords. You can alter them to Triads, Inversions or Chords with Tensions by right-clicking the desired Chords and selecting an alternative in the pull-down menu. |
How do I assign simple Triad Chords to my composition ? |
CAMPS always shows results in 7th Chords. You can alter them to Triads, Inversions or Chords with Tensions by right-clicking the desired Chords and selecting an alternative in the pull-down menu. |
Where do I find the "50 sets of EZ Compose settings?" |
In the Compose dialog box/Parameters sub pane. First, you have 6 Categories that represent the orchestration role for Auto Composition such as Bass, Melody, etc. in the Category selection box. Second, you have various numbers of different settings ranging from 3 to 20 under each Category. All together there are 50 settings. |
Unlike algorithmic programs, CAMPS doesn't require any preset pattern. Don't expect something like Jazz, Disco settings and so on. CAMPS always analyzes the provided Line and starts from there. If you provide a Jazzy Melody line, it composes Jazzy Melody lines. If you provide a Funky Bass line, it composes Funky Bass lines. The Compose settings provide users with additional control over Auto Composition. You can create, save and load your own settings at any time. |
What do terms mean in the Chord Function area when I pull down the dividing line below the Chord Area ? |
Terms you see at the Chord Function area, such as Diatonic, Sub V7, etc. represent groups of Chords that include respective Chord Functions. For example, if you select Diatonic, you'll see some Chords closely related to diatonic such as Sub Dominant Minor Chords besides purely diatonic chords. The Chord Function, Sec.Dominant, includes Extended Dominant Chords and their related II-7 besides purely Secondary Dominant Chords. |
What is the background shade for each Chords ? |
The shade of each Chord changes according to the Chord Function the Chord comes from. The darker it gets, the more out-of-key type of Chords it includes. The point of this is to view the Tension-Release tendency at a glance, by observing the shade of each Chord. |
Is there any way to reduce the number of dissonant suggestions in the Harmonize dialogs? I imported a minor latin tune with a basic G- F Eb D7 progression, and it repeatedly suggested Abdim as a first chord, even when I chose G minor as the root key. |
Yes. You have 3 filters, the Chord Function, Tracks to be referred to, and Key and Mode.
With your minor latin tune, activate only Diatonic for the Chord Function, select 4 chord containers, open the Harmonize dialog box, select Tracks to be analyzed, and select G minor for Key and Mode. |
Other than drawing the chord containers one at a time, is there any way to mix up the harmonic rhythm? Does the harmony algorithm ever suggest different harmonic rhythms? It seems strongly predisposed to uniform chord rhythms (1 per bar, 2 per bar, etc.) |
You can set up the desired duration for the chord containers being created in the New Chord Block dialog box. The settings you have made in the dialog box will be in effect the next time you draw the new chord containers by using the Pen tool. |
You can always resize the Chord Duration (using the Arrow Too) by dragging the right edge of a desired Chord Container to the desired size. |
Please note : When "Align To Grid" is active in the Chord Area, the Chord size will snap
to the nearest Horizontal Resolution Grid point. Clicking the Chord Area and then choosing "Align To Grid" from the View menu switches Active or Deactive "Align To Grid" in the Chord Area.
Is there any way to "thin out" the Generate or Harmonize dialog's suggestions? Can I say, "I like the suggestion of a Bbmaj7 as the first chord. Show me all the variations that begin with that chord?" |
Yes. This means you have pretty much decided to adopt the Bbmaj7 for the first Chord. You can "thin out" suggestions by excluding the first Chord when selecting target Chords to work on. In this case, CAMPS still refers to the first and following Chords when suggesting Chord Progressions, providing a smooth flow all the way through. |
Since you can select multiple Chords not necessarily to be in a succession, you can "thin out" suggestions by not selecting the already-decided Chords in the Chord Progression. |
In general, the less number of Chords you deal with at a time, the less number of suggestions you'll have. |
What is the MelodyDraw ? |
MelodyDraw is a unique freestyle drawing tool for directing the Pitch occurrences in Line data being Auto Composed. It actually allows Auto Composition based on a mouse-drawn contour. You can find the MelodyDraw information in the Compose dialog box/MelodyDraw sub pane. |
How do I keep my copy of CAMPS v4 safe during Disk Defragmentation ? |
An installed copy of program is basically immune to defragmentation tools. In caseof using "Speed Disk", do the following settings : Open "Speed Disk", choose Files>Options>Customize>Unmovable Files, and Specify that the *.ENT, *.RST, *.KEY, and *. 41S files cannot be moved. |
I just keep getting "Empty" results for a particular Chord Container in the Harmonize dialog box. Why? |
Several logical reasons are possible with this case regarding the Melody - Harmony relation :
Have you assigned an appropriate Harmonic Rhythm to your Melody lines? If you have assigned only ONE chord container, for example, while your Line data dramatically change in harmony, you may mostlikely get an "Empty" result. |
Have you assigned an appropriate "Chord Block" Rhythm to your Melody lines? |
Have you selected appropriate Line Tracks for reference? |
Have you assigned an appropriate Orchestration Category to every Line Track? |
Have you selected appropriate Chord Functions for reference? |
